Eveready Torch Walk

On Thursday 23rd of August, The Birches - an International Eco-school held its annual Eveready Torch Walk. The Theme for the school year has been 'SUSTAINABLE ENERGY FOR ALL' and this was carried through to the Walk.

The Walk was held at night and the children walked laps using their Eveready Torches and batteries to raise funds to replace the fencing around the fields at The Birches.

The Walk began at 5.45pm with a warming up display by the children. As the sun went down the music played was 'Ke Nako' (let us shine!); and the children were each given their torches to switch on and wave to the heavens! They all pledged to do what they can to sustain our world.

The children walked for a full hour; some doing 59 laps! The rain held off until it was over ... then the heavens opened! All the children who participated received certificates.

Scilla Edmonds, the Principal of The Birches said, "Not surprising; the torches were on the entire evening and went home just as bright as when they were given out - what else could we expect from Eveready batteries! I am deeply indebted to EVEREADY and all concerned for the sponsorship. What an incredible message it also gave to all; as well as helping to raise much needed funds. It was really an amazing evening that was enjoyed by all."
