Creating Moments That Last: Behind the Scenes of Eveready’s TV Ads

Date : 26 October 2015

What many people may not realise, is that it was from the concept of our TV adverts that our For Moments That Last. Foreveready core message was born.

After seeing the need to tell our customers and the public about our alkaline battery range, we started discussing how we could educate the public to choose the correct battery for their device. It is from this that we realised that the batteries are used to power devices that result in life’s enjoyable moments.

Many brainstorming sessions later resulted in our 3 TV adverts and 3 radio adverts. This month, we asked our Brand Manager, Liza Kingston, to fill us in on what happened behind the scenes.

Behind the Scenes

Preparation:

Preparing for the filming of three 30 second TV adverts is no easy feat, but thanks to working with an amazingly professional agency in Port Elizabeth, things went a lot smoother. The agency proposed props and the wardrobe, as well as casting and locations. After the proposals, the agency and the Eveready team put their heads together to make the final decisions. "It was really fun to act like a stylist and interior decorator for the day,” said Liza.

Filming:

The filming for each advert adhered to a strict schedule and there was one full day dedicated to each advert. After setting everything up from 7am, the filming usually commenced from around 10am and only wrapped up at 5pm.

Liza describes being behind the scenes and watching the core message come to life as a "proud and stressful moment”. The team was proud to be a part of this campaign and to bring it to life for the customers, but the time constraints of having one day per advert also proved to be stressful.

The Eveready team and the filming crew loved every moment of filming the adverts – but the most fun they had was at the filming of the beach advert. Not only was it special because it was the first one they filmed, but the lovely weather also contributed to a fun day of working outdoors while capturing the essence of the campaign.

Making Memories:

Liza said that each advert had its own precious moments that resulted in lovely memories for the cast, crew and Eveready team.

The kids in the beach advert had a lot of fun shooting it, as they spent all day playing in the sun and the sand and having snacks. The little boy in the advert had a contagious smile that made it extra special to have his face as the first and last shot of the advert.

Behind the scenes of the gaming advert had a nice, sentimental feel to it because the actors cast as father and son are father and son in real life. The laughter and fun everyone had while filming this advert created some great memories; and even more so for the father and son to remember for a long time.

The little girl who acted in the bedtime stories advert was hyperactive the whole day and even though the directors were exhausted after filming the advert, she was still smiling and filled with energy – which brought laughter to everyone there.

When asked what it was like to be a part of the process with the team and to create their own Moments That Last, Liza said: "Wow, this was an amazing project to be a part of – something we will remember forever. I hope that everyone who watches it connects with the "heart” of the adverts – For Moments That Last. Foreveready.”
